Devine Intervention- Self Healed- Misdiagnosed-..........
Last spring I went to the Dr. complaining of a cough that wouldn't go away, and was diagnosed with "COPD". Some of you probably remember this. At first I was treated for Gerd-(Acid Reflux in a nutshell) doc put me on prilosec for three days and because i wasn't feeling better did a breathing test on me.This breathing test known as a PFT(Pulmonary Function Test) measures how much and how fast I exhaled a deep breath. This was however, a two part test. After the first part of just breathing into a tube, I sat with a nebulizer inhaling albuteral(bronchial dialator) and then took the test again measuring how much and how fast I exhaled with medication.Test showed that I did better before medication than after, but because it showed some blockage he decided that I had COPD and put me on a list of medications and looked at me weird when I asked for a referral to a lung specialist, like how dare you question my diagnosis lol. This was in May, '06.I finally got into a Pulmanary Specialist in July or August don't remember exactly when, but I ended up running out of that office cause that doc was just "weird". Shortly after, I find out I need surgery so I put that all on hold.I took his meds until September feeling weaker and weaker all the time which other problems going on at the time was contributing to my general wellness.I go into surgery in September. Didn't eat or drink anything 15 hrs prior going in,stop smoking now, and then you know the after surgery diet. A day or two after surgery I felt great! No coughing. Chest felt better than it has in a long time! Oh, at this point I have a new doc due to change in insurance.I at this point start to really question my diagnosis of "COPD". After all, I hadn't ran the gammit of tests, and gee? Why did I feel so much better after surgery? Is there something to this? I quit taking all those inhalers, I pray, and pray some more. I practice deep breathing excerises envisioning my lungs healing with every breath. Also decided that if I were to trust in God I had to quit taking those meds(to me it wasn't showing faith).I finally get another referral for a lung doc and get an appt shortly before christmas. I wait a month and a half for this appointment and find out when I got to the office, my insurance company screwed up and sent me to a sleep clinic! LOL (yes, I was mad)I get another referral(3x's a charm) and saw a Pulmonist 2 weeks ago. All his office tests go really well. I blow into his machine all is good, tests my oxygen levels while being still, stop smoking, and walking all is normal. Asks me a bunch of questions and tells me that he is calling my doc and is telling her to take the COPD diagnosis out of my charts. He also shared with me that it usually takes about 3 months for acid reflux medication to take about 3 months to take effect and really do their thing, and that it isn't unusual for some people to have difficulty after meds with that test.He did however send me for more sensitive tests to make sure there wasn't any underlying conditions going on that he couldn't see. Got the results last Thursday and I................DEFINATELY DO NOT HAVE COPD!You can only guess how tickled friggen pink I am !It pays to listen to your instincts. I'm glad that I didn't just accept completely what I was told in May. One thing that I definately know is..............I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!Thank you everyone for your support through this. Thank you for my recovery! ~Anju
