MaryLou's New Year Resolution (For newbies and NYR quitters)
I think that this should be on the main board for the people that will be coming in wanting to quit.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Post: MaryLou4 years ago tonight at 11:59 PM. I stood out in the freezing cold in the back yard in Edmonton, quit smoking, Alberta and ground my very last cigarette into the frozen ground.( I can still feel it under my foot). After a 42 year, heavy addiction, I decided I had HAD ENOUGH. I made a deal with myself....no smokes for me in 2003. This bb and the many, many wonderful people at it made all the difference in the world to me. I had joined this bb in about October 2002...had a quit going....lasted about 3 1/2 weeks or so....and I fell flat on my face!!!!!! I was sooo disappointed with myself.....but the great people here convinced me that I needed to brush myself off, do much more reading and learning ......quit beating myself up ....and DO IT AGAIN!!!! I did....New Years Eve. Was it easy?....not on your life! It was the HARDEST thing I have ever done (and I gave birth 4 times..LOL!!). I will never forget the advice I got here.....NOT ONE TEENY TINY LITTLE PUFF..............NO MATTER WHAT!!!!! I had to learn that no matter what life threw my way.....I could not give in to that nasty NICODEMON and take that ONE LITTLE PUFF....cause it would put me right back in to that spinning out of control smoking life again.....and I do NOT EVER want to go back there again. I never think about smoking anymore ( that did not happen overnight but I persevered one second at a time until it did). I am so proud of myself for doing this. I am so grateful to be a non smoker. It is THE BEST thing I ever did for myself and my family. You can do it too. Always remember...NOT ONE PUFF......NO MATTER WHAT. Happy New year one and all.....and MAKE 2007 YOUR YEAR!!!!! Oh yeah.....look at this......Three years, eleven months, four weeks, two days, 14 hours, 26 minutes and 38 seconds. 36515 cigarettes not smoked, saving $14,smoking cessation,606.01. Life saved: 18 weeks, 18 hours, 55 minutes. YAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
